090:365 These Boots Were Made for ...

Today I had a wander into college and chatted to Keith and although i'm not feeling a lot more confident about my interview on Thursday I'm still a bit nervous...

So for todays shot i decided to play with my next still life element which is using "natural light" and used light coming through the kitchen window to light these old boots that i use for the gardening.

I've partially made them black and white and merged the layers to desaturate a little.

Really quite happy with these shots.

089:365 Sock it to Me

Had a few ideas for todays shot then i noticed Carons socks and thought COOOOOOLLLL

So i just had to do shoot them.

088:365 Through the Lens

Ok today hasn't been a great day with both Lynn and Caron up most of last night ill and spending today in bed.

They did get a bit more sprightly earlier and i was able to nip out with Scott for a quick hour long photo session at the Brickworks.

This is the view through Scotts Yashica TLR.

087:365 The Brat Pack

Lynn has been going on at me for ages that she wants pics of the kids for to have framed for our bedroom wall...personally i'd rather have some pictures of Cheryl Cole or Kirsten Dunst but ach well i had to do what i was told.

Shot these this evening in the front garden, boy it's cold, exposing pretty much for the clouds but one stop under and using flash to light the kids.

Really happy with how these look, even if Darren wouldn't stay still for longer than a nano-second.

086:365 WTF

Sometimes things are just too random to explain away.

Tonight Scott and I did a little shoot for the ATC in Livingston, as my niece and brother-in-law are involved with them.

The gorgeous young lady on the left is my niece and her friend on the right was too busy trying to cover up her braces she ended with this face.

what do you think? braces or pout?

084:365 Little Monkey

Todays image is a bit odd...

Was trying to get a portrait of the wee fella but he really wasn't into it and made off with my flashgun ..

So this is todays upload

083:365 Still Life Continues

Spent yet another couple of hours tonight doing some still life work, this time mixing up some whisky glasses and a wine glass.

This is probably the best one for me, i really like the deep red from the rose wine in the wine glass.

Although i still hate doing still life it is growing on me a little more.

082:365 Amber Nectar

Todays shot comes from my testing for our college still life module, i;m not a huge fan of this type of work but i spent a couple of hours this afternoon playing about with some still life stuff.

I quite like the final image here but knowing college i'll have to re-shoot a whole lot of them to get one they will like.

081:365 The Faerie Visits

Today was a good day as a number of us travelled the long way through to Helensburgh for another Group Shoot.

I had the pelasure of working with Miel, Emma (pictured) and the wonderful Princess Zoe :)

This was shot outside and was much much lighter than it looks but a deliberate use of a highish shutter speed to darken it down works quite well.

Were now tolking about another group shoot but out our way with the Brickworks being the place that it might be...

080:365 The Chair

Today was a good day as Zoe (how long has it been), Scott and I went out to East Fortune Hospital for a nosey around.

Was good fun and i even managed to get Zoe to do a little modeling again whilst we were there.

It really is another creepy place just like Bangour, but lots of possibilities too.

079:365 Bogies.....

Well this young man is certainly not all sugar and spice, he's a big monster :)

He's been loving the weather recently even though his nose is still streaming with bogies and snot :)

he loves playing football and has been chasing this ball about the garden all afternoon.

Light from behind from the sun and flash from the front.

Thursday 19 March 2009

078:365 My Princess

Todays shot is of my little Princess Caron...

Taken just as the sun was setting with a high shutter speed and flash to push the background darker and light her up.

This is unusally quite a nice portrait of her, especially in comparison to the last one of her i shot.

077:365 Demure

Had the pleasure of a last minute shoot with Lacey Demure (Lauren) today.

She had a loan of a stunning dress which worked really well as a contrast to the Pumpherston Brickworks where this was shot.

This version has only been resized and sharpened no other ps work done, and i love it.

Thanks also to keith who acted as part VAL stopping the lights falling over.

076:365 Pan F

Been a silly boy and forgot to upload this, had way too much on my mind at the time.

This was shot in the college processing room and was Robert washing out his Pan F (dev'd in perceptol).

075:365 Cake and Eat it

Todays shot is a bit rubbish, just some chocolate cake that i was going to eat - hopefully better tomorrow :)

off to eat the cake.

Sunday 15 March 2009

074:365 Mountain Survey

Today i was up really early for a wee trip down to Pauls and we went out to Bellsquarry Woods.

This is one of the test shots for my graded unit and i'm pretty happy with the look.

Shot with a bare flash to camera right.

Thanks Paul :)

Saturday 14 March 2009

073:365 Tree Crawling

Scott and i today went for a wander up to Murieston to Cambridge Park to have a looksee around for some shots.

I really liked this and have it in various options, including my favoured lensbaby :)

This is also a possible location for a shoot with Paul, which i'm doing tomorrow, can't wait :)

Friday 13 March 2009

072:365 Fruity

Had a few different thoughts for today but went for this one.

Some Apples, Bananas and Oranges in the fruit bowl...

Not sure what to do tomorrow as yet.

Thursday 12 March 2009

071:365 A Guitar Hero

This is another of my large format college project and features my college classmate Ross rocking it out to Guitar Hero at the Kirk of Calder (many thanks to Rev Povey for agreeing to me using the church for this).

I wanted the church to be quite underexposed so dropped the ambient a few stops and then used the flash from the front (bounced into a white card box on the front of the tv) to light Ross and the church and a snooted flash, held by Simon, acts as a rim light.

Shot at 1/15sec, f5.6 using Ilford Delta 100 sheet film and the usual camera kit.

Wednesday 11 March 2009

070:365 A Troupe of Hairdressers

The last shot for my portraiture block at college, was for the Group Portrait.

The gorgeous young ladies of the hairdressing unit at the college were happy to help me out.

The pouting is a bit fun :) but i do like this.

Tuesday 10 March 2009

069:365 Dirty Day Away

OK so i'm posting this the day after...but i was way to knackered when i got back last night.

France was great fun and Scott, Alex, Keith and I had a great time.

This was shot deliberately approx 1 stop under, then using the Super Fun Happy action to get a more washed out effect.

More will be on my main blog soon.

Monday 9 March 2009

068-365 We're all Going on a....

Todays shot is a quickie and a bit naff....but i'm a bit busy today anyway.

Scott, Keith, Alex and I are booked on the 06:40 flight from prestwick to beauvais tomorrow morning so trying to catch a bit of shut eye before sitting up tonight.

Unlikely that tomorrows shot will actually be posted tomorrow as i'm not back in Scotland til almost midnight tomorrow night but it will be posted as soon as i can.

Currently trying to decide whether to post a digital image or a scan from the MF camera that i'm taking with me, whatever it will be posted on wednesday sometime.

Sunday 8 March 2009

067:365 New Kit

Today i went to East Kilbride to pick up a box of kit some of which will wing it's way into the college for the use of students and some which will be useful additions to my own kit.

This is a Ricoh XR-X with a 28-70 lens and a 70-210 lens and flash.

Already got some HP5 loaded.

066:365 Time to Get P.....

I'm beginning to fade, there's just so much hassle at the moment for nothing.

Some people appear to be power hungry, others uncapable of being human and i just can't be bothered with it at the moment.

My solution - keep out of it now, look for alternatives and get P..... :)

Tonight i'm on the Magners...

One last thing... thanks to the guys for being themselves...you know who you are...

Friday 6 March 2009

065:365 Squish

Todays image is one of my darling angel children :)

The white balance is a bit ropey with our lights in the livingroom and kyle doesn't look happy under the weight of the other two lol

Thursday 5 March 2009

064:365 Sailing Away

Struggling today and just in from visiting a mate (Hey Paul) and so snapped this little ornament.

ISO1600, so nice and grainy.

Wednesday 4 March 2009

063:365 The Pest

I'm a bit late posting this one tonight, mainly due to the pest.

This is my darling wife Lynn for whom i've spent the last couple of nights typing up her college work, when i should really be doing my own (tut tut i know).

I hope she appreciates it.

Tuesday 3 March 2009

062:365 Snowing Stress

Today i've pretty much left the picture to really late so not much about this, might add more bumph tomorrow

this was shot about 10 mins ago of the snow falling in the garden.

Monday 2 March 2009

061:365 Flower Power

Today has been a fairly successful day photogaphically.

Earlier today i was round at the school doing a shoot with the Head Teacher for my corporate portrait work at college.

I might post the resultant picture on my large format blog once it's been processed.

In the meantime i decided to shoot some flowers in the kitchen instead.

060:365 Needing a Drink

Today i am feeling a little under pressure with college stuff still to do.

These little bad boys sit on our kitchen bunker in a little holder we got for Christmas from a friend.

I have a bottle of some white lovelyness in the fridge which i think i am about to crack open and forget about things for a few hours.
